Moving in Norwalk

After Stamford, Norwalk is the biggest town we cover, about 91,000 people, and the hardest one to guess on the phone. One week last spring our crews did a fourth-floor SoNo walk-up on Monday, a Rowayton cape stuffed with sailing gear on Wednesday and a 25-desk office by Merritt 7 on Friday night. It's ten miles from our warehouse, so travel stays at one hour on every estimate.

SoNo Streets and Apartment Buildings

South Norwalk streets are narrow and metered, and on a Saturday night they're packed. Newer buildings have loading areas and elevators you book ahead. Older ones have stairs, a lot of stairs, and no elevator. Tell us which kind you live in.

A week out, we ask your building for its move-in rules. Some want hallway floor and wall protection and a fixed start time. We bring the first and keep the second.

Types of Moving We Offer in Norwalk

Apartment Moves in SoNo and Downtown

As apartment movers in SoNo, we find most studios and one-bedrooms take about three hours with two people. Elevator buildings beat walk-ups, but only when the elevator is booked and padded. The sofa and TV are wrapped before they ever reach the hallway, so the building manager has nothing to photograph.

Office Moves Near Merritt 7

Route 7 is lined with office space, and our office movers have been inside most of those buildings. Small and mid-size offices move after hours or across a weekend. Every desk, monitor and file box is tagged to a floor plan, so Monday morning looks like Friday afternoon, just somewhere else. Biggest one so far: 40 people in one weekend.

Rowayton and East Norwalk Homes

Rowayton and East Norwalk mean waterfront capes and colonials, some lifted onto piers after the big storms, plus boats, kayaks and a shed of outdoor gear. Small boats and gear can come too if you tell us early. A raised house adds outside stairs, and outside stairs add a mover.

House Moves in West Norwalk and Silvermine

Up toward New Canaan, West Norwalk and Silvermine have bigger lots, long drives and old stone walls. Four movers and a 26-foot truck finish most three-bedroom houses there in a day. One catch. Tape the boxes the night before, not at 7:30 the morning of.

Small Moves Around Norwalk

Some jobs are only a few pieces: a storage unit, a couch going to a new apartment, a parent moving somewhere smaller. Those run on our three-hour minimum with two movers. Pack it, tape it, stack it by the door, and you'll likely be done early.

How Much Do Movers Cost in Norwalk?

Most Norwalk moves with us cost $650 to $3,600 in 2026. A SoNo one-bedroom usually runs $650 to $1,100. A three-bedroom house is typically $2,000 to $3,400. Office moves are priced per desk, around $350 to $600 each. Each estimate includes one travel hour from Stamford.

Routes We Use in Norwalk

I-95 brings our trucks in at exits 14 to 16, and the Route 7 expressway takes us north toward Wilton and Merritt 7. The Merritt Parkway is off limits to box trucks, so offices near it are reached from Route 7 or Main Avenue. Friday afternoon traffic on I-95 eastbound is real; we schedule Norwalk deliveries for the morning when we can.

Getting a moving truck into SoNo on a festival weekend is like getting to the front of the line at the Norwalk Oyster Festival: you can, but not at 2 pm on Saturday. We check the city calendar when we book a Norwalk date. If there's a street fair, a race or a big event near the harbor, we move your start to 7:40 or shift the day, and we tell you why.

Honestly, a Norwalk apartment is the move people most often try alone with a rental truck. It goes fine right up until the couch meets a SoNo stairwell. Three hours with two of our movers costs less than most people expect.

What Makes a Norwalk Move Different

Norwalk packs nearly every kind of home we move into one town. Lofts in old mills and factories. New towers with loading docks. Waterfront capes. Big houses on the hills north of the Merritt. So we ask more questions on a Norwalk call than anywhere else, and four answers set the crew size: the floor, the elevator, the parking and the tightest doorway.

Old mill buildings in SoNo sometimes have freight elevators that need an operator or the super's key, and some stop running at 5 pm. Get those hours from the building manager early. We'll plan the day around them.

Rowayton's lanes are narrow, and some days a 26-foot truck can't park anywhere near the house. Then we send the 16-foot truck. It means one more trip. It also means the neighbours keep their hedges.

We've seen one mistake more than any other in Norwalk lofts: the sofa that came in through a wide freight door five years ago won't leave through the passenger elevator the building now insists on. Measure it before moving day, or let us measure it at the estimate. If it has to come apart, we bring the tools and bag the legs and bolts so it goes back together at the new place.

Before Your Norwalk Move

  • Ask about freight elevator hours if you live in a converted mill or loft building.
  • Measure the sofa and the door at the new apartment. Lofts have wide doors; older walk-ups don't.
  • Reserve the curb where your building allows it.
  • Label boxes by room at the new place, not the old one.
  • For offices, send us the floor plan a week ahead so we can tag every desk.

Office Moves Along Route 7

Merritt 7 and the buildings along Route 7 are full of mid-size companies, and most of them move on a Friday night. We start after 5 pm, wrap and tag every workstation, and have desks, chairs and monitors placed to the floor plan before Monday. Your IT people handle the network. We handle everything that has to be carried.

Most Norwalk office moves come in at $350 to $600 per workstation, with our certificate of insurance sent to both buildings and the lobbies and elevators padded at each end. No exceptions.

Heading north, we cover the same ground for movers in New Canaan, where lots get big and roads get narrow.

What Our Customers Say After the Truck Leaves

Every review at Stamford Prestige Movers gets read by Gina and by the crew lead on that job. If we moved you, a few honest lines help the next family in Fairfield County pick a mover with real information.

  • Priya S.
Our building at Harbor Point wanted a certificate of insurance and a dock time. Gina’s office sent both before I even asked. The crew had the two-bedroom in the truck by 11 and set up in North Stamford by 3.

Moving out of a fourth-floor walk-up on the Upper West Side is nobody’s idea of fun. They packed the kitchen the day before, carried everything down without a scratch on the banister and the price matched the estimate.

Norwalk Moving FAQs

Do you move studio and one-bedroom apartments in Norwalk?

Yes, and they make up a big share of our Norwalk work. Two movers and a truck finish most studios and one-bedrooms in three to four hours, at $179 an hour with a three-hour minimum. Walk-ups and long hallways add time, so tell us the floor and whether there is an elevator.

Can you move our Norwalk office over a weekend?

Yes. We start Friday at 5 pm, load and deliver Saturday, and use Sunday for set-up and anything that needs a second trip. Every desk and box gets a coloured tag that matches a floor plan, so your team walks in Monday and finds their own chair where it belongs.

Do Norwalk apartment buildings need a certificate of insurance?

Most newer buildings in SoNo and downtown do. They ask for proof that the mover carries liability coverage, with the building named on it. Send us their sample and the manager's email; our office sends the certificate within one business day and books the elevator time with them.

Can you move a loft in an old SoNo mill building?

Yes. Lofts often have big doors and big furniture, and a freight elevator with limited hours or an operator. We get the elevator schedule from your building, plan the crew to finish inside it and pad the elevator walls. Tell us if the elevator is small, because some couches have to take the stairs.

How much does a Norwalk house move cost?

A three-bedroom Norwalk house usually costs $2,000 to $3,400 with four movers and no packing. Rowayton and East Norwalk houses with outdoor stairs or tight streets can run a little higher. Every estimate includes one travel hour from Stamford and is written down after a walk-through, in person or by video.
