Moving in White Plains

White Plains is the county seat of Westchester, about 16 miles from our Stamford warehouse by I-95 and I-287. Downtown is mostly towers, so a White Plains move usually starts with a call to a building manager, not a truck. Last year our office booked more loading docks in White Plains than anywhere outside Stamford.

Dock Times and Elevator Holds

Downtown towers usually hand you a two to four-hour loading window, a padded service elevator and a page of rules. Miss the window and the next move gets the dock. We size your crew to finish inside it.

A week ahead, send us the building's sample certificate and the manager's contact. Our office sends the certificate of insurance within one business day.

Types of Moving We Offer in White Plains

Condo Movers for Downtown Towers

High-rise condos and rentals with loading docks and service elevators. Three or four movers, a booked window, and every piece wrapped before it leaves the unit. One of our crew stays at the elevator, so nothing sits in a hallway waiting.

Commercial Movers for Offices

Law offices by the courthouse, medical practices, small headquarters. These moves happen after hours or on a weekend. Every desk, monitor and file box is tagged to a floor plan, and the lobby and elevators at both buildings are protected.

Family House Moves

Gedney Farms colonials. Tudors in the north end. Split-levels all over the city. Four movers and a 26-foot truck handle most three-bedroom houses in one day.

Moves to Connecticut

Plenty of White Plains families head east to Greenwich, Stamford or Darien. It's a short drive and an interstate move at the same time, which means a written estimate, a bill of lading and the federal moving booklet.

Moving and Storage Between Apartments

Leases don't always end and start on the same day. If the new White Plains apartment isn't ready, your furniture can wait in our wooden vaults, one room each, in a climate-controlled warehouse in Stamford. Delivery is booked just like the move-out, dock and all.

Move-in days in downtown towers also tend to cluster at the start and end of the month, and so do the dock bookings. Last year the first and last weekdays of each month were the hardest White Plains dates to get. If your lease lets you, take the 3rd or the 27th instead. The building will have more slots, and our crew will too.

How Much Do Movers Cost in White Plains?

Most White Plains moves with us cost $900 to $4,000 in 2026. A one-bedroom condo downtown runs $900 to $1,500 when the dock is booked. A three-bedroom house costs $2,200 to $3,600. Office moves run $350 to $600 per workstation. Estimates include one travel hour from Stamford.

Truck Routes Into White Plains

I-287, the Cross Westchester Expressway, is how we get in. The Hutchinson River and Bronx River parkways both ban commercial trucks, just as the Merritt does in Connecticut, so you won't see our trucks there. Some downtown streets around Main Street and Mamaroneck Avenue run one way, and we plan the approach to each building before moving day.

We think a downtown move is won or lost the week before. Dock booked. Insurance certificate sent. Elevators reserved at both ends. After that, the move itself is just carrying.

How a Downtown Tower Move Runs

A week out, our office books the dock and the service elevator, sends the certificate of insurance and confirms the window with you. The night before, the crew lead calls with an arrival time. On the day, the truck is at the dock 20 minutes before the window opens.

A dock window is like a 7:00 dinner reservation on Mamaroneck Avenue: show up at 7:20 and the table has gone to someone else. We've watched buildings send a late truck away and give the dock to the next move in line. That's why our truck arrives 20 minutes early, and why we confirm the window with you, and the building, the day before.

One mover wraps and stages inside the unit, two carry, and one stays with the elevator and the truck. Nothing waits in a hallway. The pieces that won't fit the elevator, usually sectionals and tall headboards, get measured ahead so we know whether they come apart.

Honestly, the dock window is the real deadline on a White Plains move, not the clock on the wall. So we size the crew to finish inside it with room to spare.

White Plains Move Checklist

  • Get your building's move rules and certificate sample to us a week ahead.
  • Book the elevator at both ends if you're moving building to building.
  • Measure the elevator against your largest piece.
  • For offices, send the floor plan and IT contact early.
  • Keep valuables and papers with you on moving day.

Family Houses in White Plains

Away from the towers, White Plains is a city of houses: colonials and Tudors in Gedney Farms and the Highlands, split-levels and capes up in the north end. Four movers and one 26-foot truck move most three-bedroom houses in a day, starting at 8:00 and wrapping up by mid-afternoon.

White Plains also has a lot of moves that cross the state line in one short drive. A downtown condo to a house in Greenwich or Stamford is an interstate move under federal rules, even at 15 miles. You get a written estimate, a bill of lading and the federal moving booklet, and we still price it by the hour at our Stamford rates with one travel hour.

Older Tudors have curved stairs and narrow doorways, so the big pieces get measured before moving day. If a headboard or armoire has to come apart, we bring the tools and bag the hardware.

Some north-end streets are steep and narrow, with cars parked on both sides. We check the block on the walk-through, and when a 26-foot truck won't fit, we bring our 16-foot truck and make an extra trip. It's written into the estimate either way, so nothing about the truck is a surprise on the morning of the move.

Closer to the Sound and back over the state line, our crews also work as movers in Greenwich.

What Our Customers Say After the Truck Leaves

Every review at Stamford Prestige Movers gets read by Gina and by the crew lead on that job. If we moved you, a few honest lines help the next family in Fairfield County pick a mover with real information.

Our building at Harbor Point wanted a certificate of insurance and a dock time. Gina’s office sent both before I even asked. The crew had the two-bedroom in the truck by 11 and set up in North Stamford by 3.

Moving out of a fourth-floor walk-up on the Upper West Side is nobody’s idea of fun. They packed the kitchen the day before, carried everything down without a scratch on the banister and the price matched the estimate.

White Plains Moving FAQs

Do you book the loading dock for White Plains buildings?

Yes. Send us the building manager's contact and their move-in rules. Our office books the dock and service elevator, sends the certificate of insurance within one business day and confirms the window with you. We size the crew to finish inside the window, so you don't lose your slot.

Can you move our White Plains office over a weekend?

Yes. We start Friday evening and finish Sunday, so your team walks in Monday to a working office. Every desk, chair, monitor and file box is tagged to a floor plan. We protect lobbies and elevators at both buildings and remove the packing material when we leave.

Is moving from White Plains to Connecticut expensive?

Not usually. It's an interstate move under federal rules, but a short one, and we price it by the hour at our normal rates with one travel hour included. A two-bedroom from White Plains to Greenwich typically costs $1,200 to $2,000 with three movers.

What if my sofa doesn't fit the service elevator?

We measure your largest pieces and the elevator before moving day. Many sofas and headboards come apart; some go down the stairs with extra movers. If something truly can't fit, we tell you at the estimate, not on the day, so you can decide whether to sell it, store it or bring it anyway.

How much notice do you need for a White Plains move?

Two to three weeks for most apartments and houses, and longer at the end of the month, when every lease in a downtown tower turns over at once. Buildings often need a week to book the dock and approve the certificate of insurance, so the sooner you call, the better your window.
