Moving in Westport

Westport is about 16 miles up I-95, the farthest Connecticut town where travel still counts as one hour on our estimate. Moves here lean big: new builds standing where an old cape used to be, and shoreline houses lifted above the flood line. Last summer, about one in four of our Westport customers kept their furniture with us for a month or longer while a renovation finished.

Raised Houses Near the Water

Lots of houses near Compo Beach and along the Saugatuck sit high on raised foundations, with a long run of outside stairs. Every piece goes up and down those steps, so we add a mover and plan the carry before the first box leaves.

Rain changes everything on outside stairs. We cover the treads and stretch-wrap the upholstery before it goes out the door. Whichever moving company Westport, CT families hire, get the estimate, the coverage and the date in writing. We'd say that even if it weren't us.

Types of Moving We Offer in Westport

Unpacking at the New House

Most people quit unpacking on day three with twenty boxes still taped. That's why our packing and unpacking services work both ways. The day after the move, our crew empties the kitchen boxes, makes the beds, hangs the wardrobe boxes and hauls the cardboard off, in whichever rooms you pick.

Shoreline and Raised House Moves

Houses raised near the beach add outside stairs and narrow decks. Railings get padded, and there's a mover posted at every landing. Salt air is rough on furniture in moving storage, which is one more reason ours sits in a dry warehouse, not somebody's garage.

New Construction and Large Homes

Westport's big new builds make for big moves: five bedrooms, a media room, a gym in the garage. Two trucks and a crew of six aren't unusual. New floors get runners from the front door to every room, because a builder's fresh oak scratches if you look at it wrong.

Condo Moves Near the Post Road

Downtown condos and townhouses move fast. Three movers, four to six hours. The week before, we confirm parking and any building rules so the truck never blocks the Post Road.

Westport's town beaches, the library and the Saugatuck station lots all fill early on summer Saturdays, and the Post Road downtown slows to a crawl by 11. We've found that a Westport condo move starting at 8:00 on a weekday is usually finished before lunch, while the same move on a July Saturday can run two extra hours just in traffic. If you can pick, pick the weekday.

Moving From Manhattan or Brooklyn to Westport

Westport gets a lot of families up from Manhattan and Brooklyn, and city moves bring their own rules: a building certificate, a loading window, a legal place to park. We take care of both ends, then drive straight up I-95, usually pulling into Westport by early afternoon.

How Much Do Movers Cost in Westport?

Most Westport moves with us cost between $1,300 and $7,000 in 2026. A downtown condo runs $1,300 to $2,100. A four or five-bedroom shoreline house with full packing and unpacking costs about $5,000 to $7,000. Every estimate includes one travel hour from Stamford and is written after a walk-through.

Getting To Westport

Our trucks take I-95 to exits 17 to 19, then the Post Road or Route 33. The Merritt Parkway crosses the north end of town but bans box trucks, so a home off North Avenue or Weston Road gets reached from Route 33 or Route 57. Summer beach traffic near Compo is heavy on weekends, so we try to load Westport houses on weekdays from June to August.

Moving near the beach in July without a plan is like turning up at Compo Beach without a parking sticker: you'll be turned around at the gate. Summer weekends bring beach traffic, closed lanes for town events and full curbs on the shore roads. Last summer we moved every Westport shoreline job we could to a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, and those days ran about two hours shorter.

We think the best Westport moves begin with a storage plan. New house not finished? Don't move twice. Put it in vaults and move once.

Packing a Westport House the Right Way

Packers show up the day before, three of them for a typical four-bedroom. The kitchen goes first because it's the slowest room in any house: glasses in dish packs with cell dividers, plates wrapped and stood on edge, nothing rattling in the gaps. Lamp shades get their own boxes.

Wardrobe boxes come on packing day. Clothes go from your closet rail straight onto the box's bar, still on hangers. It's the fastest part of any move, and at the new house it's just as fast backwards.

Every box gets labelled for the room it goes to at the new house, not where it came from. Our opinion: that one habit saves more time at delivery than anything else we do.

In our experience the kitchen is the room people underestimate. A four-bedroom Westport kitchen usually fills 35 to 50 boxes once the pantry, the bar and the serving pieces are counted. That's why it gets packed first and unpacked first, and why we bring a dish-pack carton for every shelf of glasses.

What to Do Before We Arrive

  • Decide on unpacking now, so we can book the unpack crew for the day after.
  • Set aside beach and boat gear you want to move yourself or store.
  • Clear the outdoor stairs of planters and furniture on raised houses.
  • Tell us about the new build's floors; fresh hardwood gets extra runners.
  • Book summer dates four to six weeks ahead.

Small Moves and Single Items in Westport

Plenty of Westport jobs aren't whole houses. A single antique going to a sister's place. A piano bench and a dining set heading into storage. A few rooms when one parent starts the new job a month early. Small moves run on our three-hour minimum with two movers, at $179 an hour.

One fragile or valuable piece gets padded, strapped upright and driven on its own, so nothing leans on it. Tell us what it is. We'll tell you whether it needs a box, a crate or just two careful people.

Continuing east along the shore, our crews also work as movers in Fairfield.

What Our Customers Say After the Truck Leaves

Every review at Stamford Prestige Movers gets read by Gina and by the crew lead on that job. If we moved you, a few honest lines help the next family in Fairfield County pick a mover with real information.

Our building at Harbor Point wanted a certificate of insurance and a dock time. Gina’s office sent both before I even asked. The crew had the two-bedroom in the truck by 11 and set up in North Stamford by 3.

Moving out of a fourth-floor walk-up on the Upper West Side is nobody’s idea of fun. They packed the kitchen the day before, carried everything down without a scratch on the banister and the price matched the estimate.

We stored the whole house in their vaults for seven weeks between closings. Everything came back dry and exactly as it went in, including my grandmother’s piano.

Westport Moving FAQs

Do you unpack as well as pack?

Yes. Our packers unpack the kitchen, set up beds, hang clothes from wardrobe boxes and leave the counters wiped. We take all the empty boxes and paper away when we leave. Unpacking is billed by the hour and usually runs $700 to $1,500 for a house, depending on how many rooms you pick.

Can you store our furniture during a Westport renovation?

Yes. Your furniture goes into wooden vaults, about one room each, in our climate-controlled Stamford warehouse, away from salt air and damp basements. When the work is done we deliver the vaults to the house. The first month is free when we handle both moves; then $150 to $195 a month per vault.

Is summer a bad time to move in Westport?

It's busy, not bad. June through August is our heaviest season, and beach traffic slows weekend moves near Compo. Book four to six weeks ahead for summer and pick a weekday if you can. September and October are calmer, and the weather is often better for carrying.

Do you move families from Manhattan to Westport?

Yes, often. We handle the Manhattan building's certificate of insurance and loading window, load in the morning and drive straight up I-95. Most two-bedroom city apartments arrive in Westport the same afternoon. The move is priced by the hour with a written estimate, usually $2,400 to $4,000 for a two-bedroom.

How much notice do you need for a Westport move?

Three to four weeks for most homes, and four to six weeks for June through August, our busiest months in Westport. Unpacking crews and storage vaults book up at the same time, so reserve them together. If your closing date moves, call us right away and we'll shift the move with it.
