Storage Between Your Two Homes

Picture the usual Fairfield County timeline. Your lease runs out on the 31st, but the house won't close until the 15th of next month. For those two weeks, where does the couch sleep? With us. We pack each room into a wooden vault (7 by 5 by 7 feet, one room apiece), seal it, write down its number and leave it shut until the day it arrives at your new door. Same idea as a dry-cleaning ticket: hand it over, get it back pressed and bagged on the day you name.

Stamford Prestige Movers provides moving and storage to Stamford and nearby Connecticut and New York towns, including Greenwich, Port Chester, Darien, Norwalk and Westport. Last year about one in four of our 900 moves spent some time in a vault. If our crews move you in and move you back out, the first month costs nothing.

Types of Moving Storage

How long, and what, decides which kind of storage fits you.

  • Short-Term Moving Storage

A few weeks while a closing catches up, or while someone finishes the kitchen. Four to ten weeks is the usual stay with us.

  • Long-Term Storage

Twelve months overseas. A parent's dining set after the downsize. A house staged half empty for buyers. All billed month to month, with no long contract to sign.

  • Climate Controlled Storage

Our warehouse stays between about 55 and 75 degrees every month of the year. That matters for wood, leather, pianos and electronics. A Connecticut attic or a steel container blows past both ends of that range every year.

  • Vault Storage or Self Storage

Our crew loads a vault and seals it; a self storage room is for people who like to drop by. If it's a move, take the vault. If you'll be digging for the ski boots in February, take the room.

  • Wine Storage

Climate-controlled wine storage for a collection between houses, with every case counted, logged and kept in a cool, dark room.

  • Storage in Transit

Long distance customers can park the load near the new home until it's ready for them. Details on long distance moving.

Storage Costs

  • Per vault (about one room): $150 to $195 a month
  • A 2-bedroom apartment: 3 or 4 vaults
  • A 3-bedroom house: 5 to 7 vaults
  • The first month is free if we move you in and out
  • Visits: by appointment, with two business days' notice

Billed monthly. You never sign up for longer than you need.

What Our Moving Storage Includes

  • Your inventory list, with every vault number
  • A warehouse with climate control
  • Pads and wrap left on each piece

How Much Does Storage Cost in Stamford?

Storage in Stamford for a move typically costs $150 to $195 per vault each month, and a vault fits about one room. Most two-bedroom apartments fill three or four, which works out to roughly $450 to $780 monthly. Let our crews do the move into storage and the move out again, and the first month is on us.

Self storage units around Stamford can look cheaper on the monthly sticker. Then add the rental truck, carrying everything twice, and the padlock. For a gap of a few weeks a vault usually wins, and honestly your sofa is better off lifted by people who lift sofas all day.

Why Climate Control Matters in Connecticut

Our state goes from a muggy August to a January cold enough to crack things, and furniture sitting in storage lives through all of it. Wood swells, then splits. Leather sprouts mold. A piano soundboard can crack right across. According to the National Park Service, museums keep paintings and furniture near 40 to 55% relative humidity to stop exactly that. We hold the warehouse at a steady temperature twelve months a year, which is the least an antique deserves.

Wine gets a separate climate-controlled room, cool and dark. Why so fussy? A single heat wave in a garage can ruin a case. We keep bottles in their original cases or in proper wine cartons, count each case onto your inventory list, and never stack the collection with the furniture vaults.

We've seen what a summer in a steel container on the driveway does to veneer. If that's the plan, find another home for the art and the dining table.

What You Can't Put in Storage

  • Food, plants, or anything alive
  • Paint, propane, gasoline, cleaning chemicals
  • Firearms or ammunition
  • Cash, jewellery and important papers, which ride with you

How Vault Storage Works

Two ways to load. We bring the vaults to your driveway on our truck, or we carry your things to the warehouse that same day. Either way the crew stacks each vault like a carry-on before a red-eye: the heavy, square pieces at the bottom, the soft and breakable ones on top, pads still on. Every vault is numbered and sealed, and the numbers go on your list. On delivery day the seals get cut while you watch, and each piece walks straight to its new room.

Want it boxed up too? The day before anything goes into a vault, our packing and unpacking crew can pack the lot.

What Our Customers Say After the Truck Leaves

Every review at Stamford Prestige Movers gets read by Gina and by the crew lead on that job. If we moved you, a few honest lines help the next family in Fairfield County pick a mover with real information.

Our building at Harbor Point wanted a certificate of insurance and a dock time. Gina’s office sent both before I even asked. The crew had the two-bedroom in the truck by 11 and set up in North Stamford by 3.

Moving out of a fourth-floor walk-up on the Upper West Side is nobody’s idea of fun. They packed the kitchen the day before, carried everything down without a scratch on the banister and the price matched the estimate.

We stored the whole house in their vaults for seven weeks between closings. Everything came back dry and exactly as it went in, including my grandmother’s piano.

Moving Storage FAQs

How long can I keep things in storage?

As long as you like, billed month to month. Most of our moving storage customers stay four to ten weeks while a closing or a renovation catches up, and a few stay a year or longer. There's no long contract. Give us about a week's notice before delivery so we can book a crew and a truck.

Can I get to my things while they're in storage?

Yes, by appointment. Vaults are sealed and stacked high, so we bring yours down to the loading bay and you look through it there. Two business days' notice does it. Need to get in often? A self storage room fits you better, because then you come and go on your own clock.

Is my wine safe in storage?

Your wine sits in a climate-controlled room kept cool, steady and out of the light. Every case gets counted and logged, bottles travel in proper cases, and the collection stays off the main warehouse floor. For anything valuable, list the bottles on a high-value inventory form and ask us about full value protection before moving day.

What does climate controlled storage mean?

It means the building is heated and cooled to stay in a steady band, about 55 to 75 degrees, all year round. That keeps wood furniture, leather, artwork, pianos and electronics away from the summer heat and winter freeze an attic, a garage or a metal storage unit lives through.

Do you offer storage without a move?

Yes. We'll pick up at your house, store it all and deliver later, even if a different company is doing the rest of your move. Monthly rates don't change. The free first month, though, only applies when our own crews do both the move into storage and the trip back out.
