Office Moves Without Losing a Workday

Plenty of Stamford offices simply can't shut for a day: trading desks, medical practices, law firms, the small headquarters along Washington Boulevard and Summer Street. That's why most of our office moves begin at 5 pm on a Friday. Last spring we moved a 40-person office in one weekend. Crates were out by 9 pm Friday, furniture went back together Saturday, and by Sunday afternoon every monitor and phone was live.

Stamford Prestige Movers provides office moving to Stamford and nearby Connecticut and New York towns, including Norwalk, White Plains, Greenwich, Westport and Port Chester. An office move works like a relay race where the baton is the floor plan: if one handoff fumbles, the whole team feels it Monday. So Gina or one of our planners walks both spaces first and writes it all down, from the crate count to the order each department leaves.

Types of Commercial Moves

Commercial movers end up doing very different jobs. These six are what Stamford businesses usually call us about.

  • Office Relocation

The whole office, copier and plants included. Each desk carries a number that matches the new floor plan, so the crew puts it down exactly where it goes.

  • Corporate Relocation Services

Household moves for employees, paid by the company. We invoice HR or the relocation firm and match their policy paperwork line for line.

  • Office Furniture Moving

Cubicles, conference tables and sit-stand desks broken down, moved and put back up. Each bolt goes in a bag marked with its desk number.

  • IT and Equipment Moves

Computers, monitors and printers ride in padded crates. Your IT people unplug and reconnect; we handle all the carrying between.

  • Medical and Dental Offices

Exam tables, charts and equipment, moved on a timetable that leaves patient days alone. It almost always means a weekend.

  • Records and File Moves

Every file box numbered in drawer order. Paper you'd rather not haul goes to secure document shredding instead.

Office Moving Costs

  • Per workstation: $350 to $600
  • A 10-person office: $4,000 to $6,500
  • A 40-person office in one weekend: $14,000 to $22,000
  • Crate rental: $2 to $4 a crate per week
  • Nights and weekends: priced into the written plan

No office move is booked without a walk-through and a written proposal.

What Every Office Move Includes

  • A planner walking the old space and the new one
  • A numbered floor plan, with a label for every desk
  • Crates for the files and whatever lives in each desk
  • Desks and tables broken down, then put back up
  • Padding for floors and elevators in both buildings
  • Insurance certificates sent to each landlord

How Much Do Office Movers Cost in Stamford?

Office movers in Stamford typically charge $350 to $600 per workstation, which puts a 10-person office at about $4,000 to $6,500. Furniture, IT, the floors and elevators at each building, and whether we work nights or a weekend all move the number. Before anything is booked, every office gets a written proposal.

How We Plan a Commercial Move

  1. Walk-through of both spaces with your office manager, roughly 90 minutes.
  2. Crates dropped off a week early, one per desk plus spares for files.
  3. Numbers on everything: desk, chair and crate all match a spot on the new floor plan.
  4. Building paperwork: certificates of insurance and freight elevator bookings sent to both landlords.
  5. Move night: crates and IT go first, furniture second, then the rebuild.
  6. Monday morning: one of our crew leads stays two hours to fix anything that landed in the wrong spot.

In our opinion that Monday crew lead is the cheapest insurance in commercial moving. Every time we've skipped it on a job, something ended up two floors from where it belonged. Nobody likes a Monday surprise.

Commercial Movers or a Furniture Installer?

Here's a difference worth knowing. Commercial movers carry what you already own from one address to the next; a furniture installer assembles new systems furniture for the maker. Lots of moves need both. We break down and rebuild the furniture you're keeping, then trade dates with the installer for the new pieces, so two crews aren't fighting over a single freight elevator.

Office Moves Around Fairfield County

Three towns cover most of our commercial calendar: Stamford, Greenwich and Norwalk. Practices and small firms also head out to Westport, or west over the line to White Plains and Port Chester. Whatever the address, the steps don't change. Walk-through. Numbered floor plan. Certificates out inside one business day. An office park in the suburbs usually means a loading dock and a quiet weekend, while a downtown tower means the freight elevator schedule runs the show, so our crate count is built around it.

Moving people's homes as well as their desks? Employee relocations go to our long distance moving crews, and spare furniture can sit in moving storage until you know what the new floor actually fits.

Our building at Harbor Point wanted a certificate of insurance and a dock time. Gina’s office sent both before I even asked. The crew had the two-bedroom in the truck by 11 and set up in North Stamford by 3.

Moving out of a fourth-floor walk-up on the Upper West Side is nobody’s idea of fun. They packed the kitchen the day before, carried everything down without a scratch on the banister and the price matched the estimate.

Office Moving FAQs

Can you move our office over a weekend?

Yes. It's how most Stamford offices do it. We start at 5 pm Friday with the crates and IT, rebuild the furniture on Saturday, and spend Sunday on the details. Staff say goodbye to the old office on Friday afternoon and sit down at their new desks Monday, with our crew lead on the floor that morning.

Do you move computers and servers?

Computers, monitors, printers and small server racks travel in padded crates and on carts made for them. Before move night, your IT team or vendor backs up the data and unplugs everything; after, they plug it back in. In between, we label every cable bag with its desk number, so Monday setup takes minutes instead of hours.

What do office buildings need from a mover?

Expect a certificate of insurance naming both the landlord and the management company, a reserved freight elevator, and padding on floors and walls. Some Stamford buildings only allow moves after 6 pm or on weekends. We collect each building's rules in writing, then send the certificate within one business day of the request.

How far ahead should we plan an office move?

Give a small office six to eight weeks, and anything over 40 desks about three months. That covers the walk-through, the floor plan, your IT vendor and approvals from both buildings. Moving just a few desks? That can usually happen within one or two weeks of your call.

Can you shred old files during the move?

Yes. Old records can go to secure document shredding while we move, so you aren't paying to carry paper you'll never open. The files you keep get crated and numbered in drawer order. At the new office they slide back into the cabinets exactly the way they came out.
